This is a photo taken by Henry Cartier-Bressen. It look like it shows a girl or a women running up the stairs. There is many sharp-edged, rectangular shapes. All the doors make you think, where do they go? The shadows of the building also make shapes on their own. The black and white effect reveals the shadows more than a coloured photo would. This space in this photo is narrow. The most interesting part of this photo is the girl running because the photographer managed to capture her before she disappeared behind the corner. The image is abstract. The photo is effective because of the black and white outlines.
Keith Arnatt-Rubbish Tip
1. his photos are of rubbish
2. if you look at his photos from a far they become abstract photos
3. photo colours are often browny red or other colours that are similar to colours of rubbish
4. he regularly takes photos of rubbish and rubbish dumps
5. makes rubbish looks better than what it is in reality
6. his work really highlights how one mans trash is another mans treasure
7. his pictures seem old fashioned in a way
8. if the photos were blurred you would not have been able to tell it was garbage
9. the rubbish is colourful
10. he uses the sensibility of a painter to create his photos
His art reminds me of abstract photography. I think he took them close up to disguise the fact it is rubbish and also to crop out the container that holds the rubbish.
